6/28/2023 0 Comments Coldplay clocks![]() He/she is trying so hard fight this overcoming reality as if they were trying to swim against heavy tides in the sea. It is seen that the speaker/artist struggles with the concept of death with the lyric “tides that I tried to swim against”. This begins the speaker’s/artist’s recognition that he is mortal and has limited time. The song begins with the lyrics “lights go out and I can’t be saved”, which means he recognizes that one day he will die and there is no escaping it. The song title clocks even evokes the structured and limited time we have as humans to live. The two central themes within this story is living life to the fullest and time. ![]() However, I think the song is meant to be sung and thought about as if you are the first person in order to full grasp what the artist wanted to portray about human life and taking full advantage of that life. It is important to note that the song is first person and the speaker is singing about himself. To delve deeper in to the meaning of Clocks by Coldplay. Clocks I think is a primer example of a “classic” in that it’s lyrics tell a story of human life and living life to the fullest which is intertwined with an absolutely memorable piano melody that is hard to forget. “Classic” songs should have a story that is relevant to may situations and over time can still be be relatable. To me a “classic” song should be something of a timeless nature that evokes a sense of nostalgia and stands the test of time. The song sounded hopeful like one could defeat all the odds just by listening to the song. It was on ride to my first day of middle school and the song’s infectious piano melody and strong vocals were etched into my brain the entire day. I remember distinctly the first time this song played on the radio. One song in particular by the this band that I feel strongly is a “classic” is Clocks. Coldplay’s mellow tunes and heart-wrenching lyrics speak dearly to a lot of human sadness as well as love and triumph. Hopefully they end on a high note- I know I personally cannot wait to hear what else they have in store for us.“Classics” Reflection – “Clocks” by ColdplayĬoldplay to me screams of a band that is essentially an iconic and well known symbol of great music in the alternative rock/rock scene. Their 7th studio album is tentatively named “A Head Full of Dreams” ( I feel like they just changed the words to “A Sky Full of Stars”…is that just me? Okay) and Chris Martin compared their finale to the Harry Potter series- I guess the lucky #7 is just a good place to end things. Sadly, they are working on their (most likely) last album EVER. Coldplay is one of those bands that you can tell were born to make music. I get tired of songs really fast but after 13 years, this song somehow still manages to remain relevant. This song has over 51 million views on Youtube and the numbers just go up by the day. I personally spent a good amount of time teaching it to myself on the piano. Although we can’t all be Chris Martin, it’s fun to try :). The singles “In My Place” and “The Scientist” were released to critical acclaim but the big buzz was centered on the masterpiece that is “Clocks.” It won the Grammy for Best Record of the Year in 2004 and was stuck in everyone’s head for an unspeakable amount of time. The album was certified 8x Platinum, selling over 19 million units worldwide. If you don’t know who Coldplay is…what rock have you been living under? Maybe this one with Patrick? If you don’t know them or don’t know what the faces behind the beautiful music look like, here they are in their colorful glory at the 2009 Grammys. It beat bands like The Beatles and Pink Floyd, an impressive feat for the British band. On this day in 2013, BBC Radio 2 took a poll to find listeners’ favorite albums ever released and Coldplay’s “A Rush of Blood to the Head” shot right to the top.
